Words To Ponder On

Shaqeeq al-Balkhee said:
((The sign of repentance (is): weeping at what has preceded, fear of falling into sin, leaving evil company and maintaining the company of the good)).
Siyar A’laam an-Nubalaa. – Volume 9, Page 315

Ibn Shubrumah mentions:
((I am amazed at the people who take care of themselves by eating food out of fear of dying, yet do not protect themselves from sins out of fear of the Fire)).
Siyar A’laam an-Nubalaa. – Volume 6, Page 348

Talq ibn Habeeb said:
((Indeed the rights of Allaah are far greater than the servant can fulfill, and indeed the blessings of Allaah are far more than can be counted, however, be repentful in the morning and evening (i.e. throughout the day))).
Siyar A’laam an-Nubalaa. – Volume 4, Page 622

al-Hasan (al-Basree) said:
((The wise man does not argue or seek to overcome with stratagem rather he propagates his wisdom. If it is accepted he praises Allaah and if it is rejected he praises Allaah)).
Reported by Abu Nu`aim ibn Hammaad in his Zawaa’id `alaz-Zuhd libnil Mubaarak (no. 30) and Ibn Battah in Ibaanatul-Kubraa (no. 611)

Abu Umaamah (radhi-yallaahu ‘anhu) said:
((O Messenger of Allaah tell me of an action by which I may enter Paradise?))
He (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) said:
((Take to fasting, there is nothing like it)).

Sufyaan ath-Thowree (rahima-hullaah) mentions:
((Innovation is more beloved to Iblees than sin, since a sin may be repented from but innovation is not repented from)).
al-Laalikaa’ee – Sharh Usool I’tiqaad Ahlis-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah (no. 238)

The Shaykh (rahima-hullaah) mentions:
((If backbiting of the layman ranks amongst the major sins, then backbiting of the scholar is much greater. This is because the effects of backbiting of the scholar does not rest at him only, rather it rests upon him and that which he possesses in knowledge of the Sharee’ah.))
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen

With reference to the important virtues of knowledge, the Shaykh (rahima-hullaah) mentions:
((That he who has knowledge does not become tired in protecting it.
This is because, if Allaah bestows knowledge upon you, then its place is in the heart and there is no need for containers or keys or the like.
It is protected in the heart and soul, and in time itself it is a protector for you, because it protects you from danger, with Allaah’s permission. So knowledge protects you, whilst with property, you protect it by placing it in locked up containers, and despite all this, you still remain insecure about it.))
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen
